The COVID-19 Impact
The COVID-19 pandemic has tested the business world to meet the demands necessitated to ensure the health and safety of the public. This has been especially true for those in the medical manufacturing field, and the component manufacturing companies that support them. COVID-19 has also prompted a major change in medical field operations. With resources being allocated to pandemic response, elective surgeries have been largely relegated to the back-burner.
S4J Manufacturing Services has been proud to play a dedicated role in the response of the medical manufacturing industry to provide supplies to the health care field.
Our Response
The drop in elective surgeries has changed our production and output for certain components. However, we have had an overall uptick in production to assist our clients in the ventilator, critical care, and vaccine production industries. In fact, in order to meet demands, we switched to a 24/7 production period that lasted from March 19th to July 17th, 2020.
During this period of heightened need, we also instituted what we called “Financial Support Friday”. Every Friday we bought lunch for all of our employees from locally operated restaurants. This served as a way for us to say thank you to our employees for their commitment to their jobs in this stressful time. It also gave us a way to give back and show support for members of our community who have been harder hit. S4J Manufacturing also increased our donations to the local Salvation Army food pantry to address food insecurities in southwest Florida.
We are most proud of how all of our employees came together to quickly address and initiate production of new orders, increased orders, and pull-in orders. In a time when supply chain and order response has become a serious issue for many businesses, our employees and suppliers were able to go above and beyond in responding to orders and meeting the demands at a pace that even surprised ourselves.
Expectations were exceeded constantly by our employees in this overall uncertain time, and it was a powerful reminder of how far S4J Manufacturing Services has come as a small family business.
